Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic domain name extension is the only one supposed to be for personal websites only. These domains can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. Initially, just third-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to buy john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already bought third-level domains remained running.
